GT Torch Mount 2 Function Flash Back Arrestor - Multiple Use.
**Picture shown is incorrect ** Product supplied will have a 6mm tail rather 9mm.
This FBA is about the best value for money to get you working safely. From a legal stand point all oxy / fuel sets must use a flashback arrestor on each gas supply i.e both oxygen & fuel gas. The FBA is screwed directly to the torch inlet connections while the inlet connection is a 6,3mm hose nipple enabling the hose to be fitted directly to the FBA. These FBA are not for high flow applications due to the size of the flame arresting element. The sintered filter is compatible for use with oxygen (or air) upto 20 bar working pressure. These GT FBA may be used for oxy/acetylene welding upto 30mm thickness - all sizes upto #90 or AHT #100 with sufficient flow of acetylene from multiple acetylene cylinders. When used for cutting the pressure drop become significant at the peak which means these FBA are best suited to thicknesses below 150mm where the pressure drop would equate to 2,5 bar on the oxygen i.e. with 5m long hoses, set 9 bar for a working pressure of 6 bar at the torch.
These German manufactured torch mounted FBAs have 2 functions:-
"FA" Flame Arrestor - The first is the flame quenching element which is of course a sintered metal filter which absorbs the heat from a flashback (when the conditions are within the design parameters)
"NV" Non Return Valve - The second function is that these torch mounted FBA incorporate a non-return valve (HCV) to prevent the back feeding of gases, the primary cause of flashbacks.
These flashback arrestors may be used continually even when having suffered many flashbacks, these flashback arrestors do not require resetting.
Should you be unfortunate and experience a flashback then it is important to investigate why, this is so you may prevent any future problems from occurring.
The primary cause for the majority of flashbacks will be due to incorrect lighting up procedure and failure to purge the gases properly.
The second most common cause is lighting up with too low a fuel gas flow combined with a leaking oxygen valve.
Therefore - check your gas equipment for - damage - for leaks et cetera before lighting up and then light up correctly. If you need advice please give Noz-Alls a call on 01242 681052
