Jetsoud French Style Injector Welding Shank Set - For use with oxygen and propane
The GCE Jetsoud welding shank is a typical French design, not one we are generally used to in the UK but has been included in the Noz-Alls product range as it is worthy of inclusion due to the unique and useful features it offers. It is a compact welding shank having a shorter length grip which features the smaller G1/4 inlet connections found on the British BOC designed FN or Firefly shank.
The shank is based on the injector mixng principle, that is using high pressure oxygen to suck through the fuel gas. The injector principle is an older technology left over from the days of acetylene generation when the acetylene had to be sucked out of the pipline as there was no positive pressure, the advent of high pressure acetylene being stored safely in a dissolved state meant that equal pressure mixers could be used and injectors were no longer required. With a welding nozzle it is vitally important that the injector gives exactly the correct ration of oxygen to acetylene so that fusion welding may take place correctly, therefore this meant that the oxygen pressure needed to be set correctly and that every nozzle size required its own unique injector to ensure the welding cone mixing was correct - the result of this may be seen with the majority if injector welding shanks using "welding heads" which comprise of the injector, neck & tip, one complete head for every nozzle size / flow. The accuracy of the injector is very important otherwise the backfire resistance is compromised plus the mixing ratio will be wrong.
This is where the French designed Jetsoud shank deviates from the "injector" norm, as only one injector is required, which keeps the cost to a minimum as it requires only the one injector for the severn different size welding nozzles, which are:-
Nozzle
Size
40L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 1.3 (1)
63L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 2.0 (2)
100L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 3.2 (3)
160L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 5.1 (5)
250L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 8.0 (7)
315L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 10.1 (10)
400L UK equivalent nozzle size would be - 12.8 (13)
The UK equivalent size is based on a neutral flame setting for welding
Injector welding nozzle sizes are based on the flow of oxygen in Litres / minute whereas the typical UK welding nozzles (when made correctly) flow the "number" of cubic feet of acetylene per hour. Each UK welding nozzle should have a "turndown" ratio of 50% and remain stable with enough "welding cone force" to ensure full penetration fusion welding.
The Jetsoud shank uses a variable orifice injector, hence how the torch is able to flow the correct volumes of acetylene and oxygen for each nozzle size.
It doesn't matter whether you are left or right handed as the all important oxygen control valve knob falls naturally in position for the adjustment of the oxygen flow and setting the neutral flame condition.
Spare welding necks are available as complete units with a nozzle plus there is a range of oxy / propane brazing tips available - please ask for these tel 01242 681052.
