AFN Light Weight Acetylene Cutting Nozzle - Miniature Series FN
These AFN oxy / acetylene cutting nozzles suit the miniature "Firefly" or Light Weight gas equipment. The equipment was designed to be ultra portable being put into service during the second world war. The equipment has the capacity to cut 2" or 50mm which for a small set of equipment is quite a feat.
The AFN is available in three sizes 1/32" (0.8mm) to cut 2 - 6mm, size 3/64" (1.2mm) to cut 5 to 15mm and the AFN 1/16" (1.6mm) which will cut 10 to 50 mm (and PFN - propane version is available in the same three sizes).
Setting Up Correctly - AFN
The nozzles and blowpipe were designed around the equal pressure nozzle mix principle for improved safety, unfortunately I believe that having been "rushed" into production with little develpment time the resultant seat design chosen was not as good as it could have been which means that the AFN nozzles can suffer from uneven gas distribution in the blowpipe head.
Should you experince this problem the answer is to turn off the equipment loosen the nozzle nut and twist the nozzle 15 to 65 degrees, tighten and try again. Should the first attempt fail try again at 30 degree intervals.
We have proved that the torch head design is the fault with the gas flow as we have an adaptor which allows the AFN to be lit up and tested in a larger NM torch.
Acetylene pressure should be set as low as possible - use the "soot reduction" method typically the acetylene pressure will be approximately 0.15 bar gauge.
The AFN cutting nozzles should all exhibit good backfire resistance when produced correctly.
These AFN nozzles are manufactured to Noz-Alls own engineering drawings.
Oxy / Propane - PFN
If you switch to oxy/propane then remember to switch to using our PFN cutting nozzle.
