Propane Model "O" Lead Welding Tips

The roofers and lead burners torch of choice is the Model O. For all Model O torches our tips will fit. The propane tips have been designed specifically by Noz-Alls with the correctly sized flame retention cup to ensure that the flame doesn't 'pop off' the end of the nozzle tip. These Model "O" tips have a minute and stable flame which is easy to work with.

For sizing purposes we have calculated the nozzle size for propane Model O tips to match the acetylene Model O tips. For instance, if you are typically using a size 2 acetylene tip the propane size 2 would be the tip to go for.

For other applications and as with any of the smaller torches there is an overlap in nozzle sizes.
As such, when you find that the size 1P Light Weight or Type 5 swaged brazing nozzle for the FN or the Type 3 / Type 5 torches are too big then switching to the Model O torch may well be just what you need.
A size 1P welding nozzle is between a size 3P and a size 4P Model O tip.

Modified Lighting Technique When Windy
Noz-Alls recently (Sept 2025) recieved a complaint that it is not possible to ignite our Model "O" nozzle in an exposed windy environment, Noz-Alls have never recieved a complaint of this nature from any of our hundreds of roofers using our oxy / propane version of the Model "O" nozzles, this situation caused Noz-Alls to investigate how it is possible to ignite our oxy / propane nozzles when operating at the top of a building in a windy environment.  Due to the slow burning nature of propane or propylene when compared to acetylene lighting any oxy / LPG based nozzle system is different when  compared to the similar oxy / acetyene nozzle.  Therefore should difficulty be experienced lighting your oxy / propane Model "O" Lead welding nozzle when it is windy a slight alteration to the normal lighting up procedure will be required.
  • Firstly ensure you have set the correct operating pressures (very low pressure setting) See the Noz-Alls operating chart or our website.
  • Next ensure you purge the gases correctly, always remove nozzle from neck to purge the gases effeciently and quickly then refit.
  • Leak leak test the system with oxygen compatible leak detection spray.
  • Open the fuel gas control valve to the normal position you woudl use when lighting in a non windy environment. (probably 20 to 30 degrees of rotation)
  • Crack open the oxygen valve  to add a small amout of oxygen (probably 10 to 15 degrees of rotation)
  • Ignite the nozzle with a spark lighter
  • Adjust to proper flame cone.
This modifed "Windy" lighting technique should provide a stable enough flame to be ignited and maintained on the flame tip allowing the nozzle cone to be adjusted to the desired size suitable for the lead code to be welded.

The photos of the nozzle alight are to indicate the size of the small oxy / propane flame of the Model "O" #1P nozzle, the small inner flame cone is between 0,5 to 0,75fmm in height.
